Meetup #2: Tuesday, May 25, 6pm @ McFadden’s
The second WordPress Providence Meetup will be on May 25th, 2010, at 6 pm, at McFadden’s Restaurant & Saloon. We’ll be in their private room; food and drinks will be served. Parking is free on and off street (starts at 5 pm). We are tentatively setting a regular schedule for meet ups: the last Tuesday of every month.
Doors open at 6 pm; we ask that you try to arrive by 6:30 pm for networking. The program starts promptly at 7 pm. The program includes introductions, a presentation, and a chance to pick the brains of your fellow attendees.
With the release of WordPress 3.0 upon us, we’ve invited Michael Erlewine, or Mitcho, to walk us through some of the incredible new features. Casual users and pros alike will appreciate the new menu management feature. New users will appreciate the new, highly customizable default theme, Twenty-ten (2010). Developers will be blown away by the new custom post type features, that combines the content type controls Drupal is famous for with the simplicity of WordPress. 3.0 also unifies the multi-site capabilities of MU.
Mitcho is a PhD student at MIT in nearby Boston, with an impressive résumé that includes names like Mozilla Labs and Gameloft Japan. Mitcho is the force behind the hugely popular WordPress plug-in Yet Another Related Posts Plugin (downloaded nearly 500,000 times!), as well as the powerful HookPress plug-in recently added to Automattic’s popular hosted WordPress.com platform. He is also a fellow co-organizer of WordCamp Boston. Look for a guest post from Mitcho teasing his presentation in the next couple of weeks.
This meet up is sponsored by Jake Camara. Jake is a Providence based web developer that works with a team of local freelancers, passionate about well designed, hand-coded websites. Check out his portfolio, follow him on Twitter, and thank him for sponsoring the May meet up!
As always, please RSVP by leaving a comment!
Even if you can’t make it, let us know you’re still interested by leaving a comment!

Hope to make it out and to meet everyone!
Of course, I’ll be there! Hoping to drag along a few other people that use WP as well!
Will definitely try to make it.
I look forward to it.
Planning on it!
Should be able to make it.
I’m hoping to swing by again. Seems like another great presentation.
I think this time, I’ll actually make it!
Bummer – will have to miss this one. Same night as the Kidoinfo event: Raising Kids in a Digital World: http://kidoinfo.com/ri/raising-kids-in-a-digital-world/

Unfortunately can’t make it tonight, but wanted to let you know it’s not because of lack of interest.. looking forward to next one!
Loved it!
I’m so glad that I went – in spite of the fact that I’ve yet to use WordPress! It was a great introduction.
The people there were friendly and easy to talk to – I must admit I was afraid that people would look down their nose at me because I am a novice. Now I am excited to get started, learn more AND hopefully, get my nieces excited about it too!
Shoot! I missed the meetup. Is there a plan for another one? How can I sign up to get notifications?
